Abstract

In May 1988, the Department of Sociological Problems of Propaganda of the Institute of Sociological Research of the USSR Academy of Sciences conducted a comprehensive sociological study among the Koreans of Sakhalin within the framework of closed research topics. The study was initiated by the Sakhalin Regional Committee of the CPSU and the Department of the State Security Committee for the Sakhalin Region, which raised the issue of regulating the legal status of Sakhalin Koreans before the country's leadership.
