Abstract

The last decades of modern Russian history have been a period of rapid changes and epochal innovations that have radically altered the foundations of the socio-economic and political structure of the country. The article summarises the results of a comparative analysis of the way of life in the Soviet pre-Perestroika and current times. It uses a wide range of sources: scientific, media, literary, etc. Without special references, the data of two representative lifestyle surveys are given: the All-Union one conducted by the Institute of Sociological Research of the USSR Academy of Sciences in 1981-1982 (a total of 10150 people were interviewed, including 5522 in Russia) and the All-Russian one conducted by RGSU in 2008 (2017 people were interviewed).
